About the Yoga4Health Programme
The Yoga4Health Programme in Ireland is inspired by the many years of work in the UK of the NHS and the Yoga in Healthcare Alliance (YIHA). Yoga4Health Ireland continues to work in association with the UK’s YIHA and other international yoga in healthcare groups.
Yoga4Health is a ten-week social prescribing programme aimed at supporting groups of twelve to fifteen people to achieve lifestyle change through daily yoga practices.
Classes are taken in a chair or on a yoga mat.
Yoga4Health is suitable for people who meet one of the following four referral criteria:
At risk of cardiovascular disease
Pre-diabetic (Type-2 diabetes)
Experiencing stress and/or mild-moderate anxiety/depression
Socially isolated
What is Social Prescribing
Social prescribing recognises that health is heavily determined by social factors such as poverty, isolation and loneliness.
Social prescribing offers GPs and other health professionals a means of referring people to a range of non-clinical community supports which can have significant benefits for their overall health and wellbeing.
Social prescribing works holistically, using the many assets and supports already available within communities.
